eDART Data Manager Released for Beta
RJG's new eDART Data Manager (EDM) has now been released for Beta testing at several customer locations. The EDM is a hardware and software solution for managing all of your eDARTs, monitoring the jobs they are running, and viewing their processes in real time. With features such as the Advanced System Overview, Cross Copy, automated data backup, and much more, the EDM makes it much easier for you to manage your eDARTs and the data they contain. Extended Direct Sensor Approach
RJG’s Extended Direct sensor is a new approach to direct sensing of mold pressure, which is ideal when limitations make it difficult or impossible to use traditional direct sensors. This approach simply uses a pin to transfer the force from the cavity onto a button style sensor located in the clamp plate. Some of the limitations that molders face with direct sensors include:

• Access to the sensor for recalibration is difficult
• Detection of defective sensor or a pre-load is difficult
• Exposing sensing wires to damage when the mold is serviced
• Small mold cavities aren’t able to accommodate direct sensor
• Sensors that will likely require cleaning because of the material type
• Higher temperature near the cavity than the direct sensor specification
• Exceeding the limits of a direct sensor when contouring the end

The  "Extended Direct" approach can be implemented by using a non-ejecting pin of an identical diameter to one of the standard direct sensors. The installation is similar as that used for non-ejecting pins but with some important differences:

1. The machining of the area near the cavity employs the same dimensions on the diameter and land as for the equivalent sized direct installation.
2. The pin is equipped with an O-ring and groove that is identical to the direct sensor and is the same nominal distance from the cavity wall.
3. The pin is initially cut slightly longer than required and tuned to the correct length to obtain an installation flush with the cavity wall after the initial tryout.

Puck Sensor
RJG is developing a fundamentally new approach to instrumenting large molds such as those used in the automotive and large appliance industries. This new cavity pressure sensor is called the Puck sensor because it resembles a hockey puck in size and shape and is used in conjunction with RJG's transfer pin and extended direct sensing techniques to allow sensors to be placed on the outside of the clamp plate. A key advantage is the ability to access the sensors without disassembling the mold. Large molds often have to be returned to the mold maker's shop for disassembly, which means downtime and labor costs far in excess of the cost of the sensor. The new Puck sensor approach allows for service and removal for calibration checks, even while the mold is in the press. Released in 2007, the easy-to-use Lynx Sensor Tester has been incredibly popular! The tester informs users if a sensor is functioning correctly. The Sensor Tester can be attached directly to the sensor using a standard cable. Within seconds the user will know whether the sensor is within spec. The benefits include: the ability to check sensors while tools are assembled in order to catch mistakes early when they can be corrected cheaply, the prevention of tooling-damaged sensors being discovered on the shop floor, and elimination of down time.
