3 Day Systematic Molding I & *4 Day Combination Systematic Molding I with Workshop
Course Description
3 Day Systematic Molding I is an introduction course for anyone who wants to develop a systematic approach to molding at their facility. Students leave this course with a better understanding of how to develop a machine independent process, how to make data driven improvements to existing processes, as well as how to effectively trouble-shoot using scientific and systematic approaches. Students will also understand the cause and effect relationships between the machine, process, mold, and material as well as how and why polymer behavior is influenced. This will allow them to make informed decisions for lasting solutions instead of “band-aid” fixes to the process. *4 Day Systematic Molding I-Workshop Combination includes 16 hours of hands-on practice. During the first 2 Days in the classroom, we will present the science of the 4 Plastics Variables, proper set-up and documentation of various machine function tests, setting up and optimizing Decoupled II processes at the machine (without cavity pressure instrumentation), and documentation using universal set-up sheets. On Day 3 the students split into two groups, each group working at its own machine performing assigned machine function tests, breaking down an existing traditional process and rebuilding it as a Decoupled II process, and making note of the process improvements.
On Day 4 students switch machines and go through the exercise again, trying to outdo the results of the day before. At the end of Day 4 the instructor will hear group reports on the results of their findings. The intention of this version of Systematic Molding I is to be a sort of "mini Master Molder I" where students develop a good level of confidence and ability at actually doing DECOUPLED MOLDINGSM on the job but not quite at the advanced proficiency level of MMI.
